The Google Lunar X PRIZE is expected to inspire and educate individuals from around the world, attracting new enthusiasm, new investment, and new ideas to a field of exploration technology that has previously been the domain only of large public efforts which is incidentally same as the objectives of O.S.I.R.
It has been over 30 years since any human artifact has soft landed on the surface of the Moon. This means that nearly half of the Earth’s population has never witnessed a live transmission from the surface of the Moon. New exploration plans made by space agencies around the world indicate that it could be another 5 to 10 years before the next government funded program will return to the lunar surface. These missions will conduct great science and will expand the scope of human knowledge, but will come with correspondingly large price tags.
The Google Lunar X PRIZE is designed to accelerate technology developments supporting the commercial creation of a system capable of reaching the lunar surface and performing operations over an extended period of time. The O.S.I.R Foundation believes that it can produce a team which will be capable to win the Google Lunar X PRIZE competition. The results of the PRIZE have potential to facilitate cheaper access to the lunar surface via a platform that can be used to test new space technologies in space and on the ground. With space agencies from around the world planning extensive lunar exploration over the coming decades, numerous opportunities will exist for the use of these platforms in accomplishing new and diverse worldwide lunar exploration goals.
The main aim of a team is that it must successfully soft land O.S.I.R. funded spacecraft on the Moon, roam about the lunar surface for a minimum of 500 meters, and transmit a specific set of video, images and data back to the Earth. For Detailed requirements please contact O.S.I.R. The Google Lunar X PRIZE features $30 million in prize purses, segmented into a $20 million Grand Prize, a $5 million Second Prize, and $5 million in bonus prizes.
