• Use printers which can print on both sides of the paper - ask your IT or Purchasing Department to look into this option when replacing old printers.
• Don't buy notebooks, but use the back of draft or unwanted printout. Even with a double-sided printer there is likely to be plenty of spare paper to use!
• Always buy recycled paper - for your business stationery and to use in your printers. Ask your Purchasing Department to explore the options.
• Turn off computer monitors, printers and other equipment at the end of each day. That little green or orange standby light means they're still using power - and that means a contribution to global warming.
• Turn off your office light and computer monitor when you go out for lunch or to a meeting.
• If your office has videoconference facilities, make good use of them for meetings rather than make that trip.
• Travel by rail instead of by plane for short- and medium-distance business trips. As well as helping the environment, you can catch up on that "To read" pile!
• Encourage staff to use public transport instead of cars by offering a free loan for bus and train season tickets.
